UTAH SCOTS HONOR ROBERT BURNS ON JAN. 21

"Robert Burns will be there in spirit!" promises the Utah Scottish Association, which is holding its annual Burns Supper Night Jan. 21.
"Burns Night" is a traditional holiday in Scotland. The Utah Scottish Association plans to honor the Scots' most famous poet with a potluck dinner at the Anderson Senior Citizen Center, 900 S. Ninth West in Salt Lake City, beginning at 6:30 p.m.Born into a farming family on Jan. 25, 1759, Burns experienced firsthand the poverty and injustice he later wrote about in poem and song.
He was one of them, and always popular with the common Scottish people. Some of his best-known works include the lyrics to "Auld Lang Syne," "Tam O'Shanter," and "O My Luve's Like a Red Red Rose." Burns died of rheumatic heart disease at 37.
